The Role

This person will be responsible for maintaining the success of our library of evergreen content, as well as identifying new opportunities and areas to grow organic search traffic. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with a range of SEO and keyword research tools, as well as using data to drive decision-making—without sacrificing editorial quality and style.

This is a remote position with the opportunity to commute to either the NYC or LA office if desired.

You Will

  • Use SEO tools (Semrush, Ahfrefs, Google Search Console) and Looker dashboards to monitor the performance of high-value evergreen content across BuzzFeed, BuzzFeed Shopping, Tasty, and HuffPost, and assign updates as needed
  • Edit updated posts to ensure they meet SEO best practices while also following BuzzFeed style guidelines
  • Simultaneously manage multiple update calendars involving both staff and freelance writers across various teams/publications
  • Assist BuzzFeed writers and editors with SEO packaging for new posts
  • Perform content gap analysis and keyword research to identify new evergreen content opportunities
  • Oversee internal linking campaigns across BuzzFeed, Tasty, and HuffPost to ensure SEO best practices are being followed
  • Assist in creating training SEO guides for writers across BuzzFeed Inc to ensure SEO best practices are being followed

You Have

  • The ability to line-edit quickly and cleanly across a wide variety of topics, especially pop culture and internet trends
  • A copy editor’s eye for formatting errors and grammatical mistakes
  • Experience overseeing and editing staff or freelance writers at a digital publication
  • A solid understanding of editorial SEO best practices, alongside a willingness to experiment and try new strategies or angles
  • Familiarity with SEO tools such as Semrush, Ahrefs, and Google Search Console (Looker is a plus!)
  • A track record of consistently meeting deadlines
  • A good sense of how to adjust an existing workflow to improve efficiency
